North Carolina county #15 Perquimans River
I waded through the internet for a long time looking for someplace to bird in Perquimans County. ebird had nothing with public access and Google Maps revealed no obvious locations to me. After zooming in and going through the county in detail, I finally found a small public area that is used as a boat launch on the Perquimans River. It was the best I could do, so I planned a stop there.
This spot was very small with a parking area that was adjacent to a wooden dock with a sign. If you have a boat, it seems like you could go down the river a bit and come back. There might be some good birding to be had on the waterway, but I had no way of doing this, so I just hung around the area for a while, hoping that I would see something. It was very windy out so I was nervous that I would miss my chance at this county. After some time, I was able to log an American Crow, Carolina Chickadee, and a Carolina Wren. Somewhat pathetic, but it was better than nothing and I was able to put Perquimans County behind me. I expected there would be some counties like this.
