North Carolina county #68

Goose Creek State Park

In Beaufort County, I stopped at Goose Creek State Park.  Lately, if I see a State Park in a county I need to visit, I make that location a priority.  They typically do not disappoint, with excellent habitat, scenery, and trails to hike – and Goose Creek was no exception.

The trail I choose was an easy one that went through a forest and then over a boardwalk through the swamp pictured above.

I ran into some Red-headed Woodpeckers, a number of Eastern Wood-Pewees, and a Blue Grosbeak.

There was also a Turkey Vulture that just sat in a dead tree the whole time – he was there when I went down the trail and still there when I came back.

I also got to take some photos of a mother and child White-tailed Deer that I watched from the end of the trail for a while.

The park was pretty quiet and I saw no one else during my hike.  There are roads throughout it and many different easy hiking trails.  It was an enjoyable stop and I would come back if I am in the area.
